Despite the challenges posed by the Corona Virus pandemic, WMAS successfully initiated the new PTS contract for Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG on 1 April 2020.
WMAS now provides a 24/7/365 service having stepped in earlier in the year to deliver the ‘Out of Hours’ service.
Following a long tender process, the six CCGs in the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area, decided not to award the contract [due to commence 1 August 2020] citing the unforeseen challenges of the Corona Virus pandemic.
It is envisaged that the current provider Ezec will be asked to extend the current contract, whilst WMAS will deliver the service for patients to / from New Cross and Cannock Hospitals and local dialysis centres.
Following a competitive tender process, WMAS is delighted to be awarded the contract for the new enlarged contract covering much of the Black Country.
The current service provided by WMAS for Wolverhampton and Dudley CCGs will be expanded from April 2020 to include Sandwell and West Birmingham. The new key treatment centres include City and Sandwell Hospitals and specialist units, alongside those served at the moment including New Cross and Russells Hall.
Following a competitive tender process, WMAS is disappointed to report the service currently provided to patients in Worcestershire will cease after 31 March 2020.
The commissioners have awarded a new contract for Herefordshire and Worcestershire to E-Zec Ltd. They currently operate the service in Herefordshire and will commence the new contract on 1 April 2020.
West Midlands Ambulance Service is pleased to announce it has retained the PTS contract for Cheshire, Warrington and The Wirral.
The five-year contract, which commences on 6 April 2019, allows WMAS to continue to invest in the service, including new vehicles and two extra operating bases.
This will ensure the best care is provided for patients within the region.
WMAS is please to announce that following discussions with commissioners, the service provided to Walsall Manor Hospital will be extended until 2021. The service will be expanded with staff numbers doubling, and an increase in vehicles supporting the contract.

New Year’s Day 2018 saw the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital non-emergency Patient Transport Service move from E-zec to WMAS, becoming part of the Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull contract.
WMAS welcomes the staff who have joined us from E-zec and look forward to providing a quality service for patients at the ROH.
We’re pleased to announce the extension of our contract with Worcestershire CCG’s has been agreed. The contract will now run until March 2020. This means that we have now had an uninterrupted service in Worcestershire for over 20 years. In the past 12 months we have made over 70,000 patient journeys in the Worcestershire region and further afield. Here’s to the future!
